Ferrero Rocher is one of my favorite storebought candies. I haven’t had it in a while, but I had a sudden craving for it recently. Instead of getting into my car and heading to the store, though, I thought about how fun it would be to make Ferrero Rocher at home. After a little bit of research, I learned that making homemade Ferrero Rocher is actually super easy, and the ingredients are very simple, too!

What is Ferrero Rocher?

Ferrero Rocher is a delicious chocolate candy made with chocolate and hazelnuts. They are known for the distinctive golden foil that they’re wrapped in, which gives Ferrero Rocher a more “luxurious” look.

And, Ferrero Rocher doesn’t only look good–they’re also delicious. The texture of Ferrero Rocher is both soft and crunchy at the same time. They’re pretty addictive, and this homemade Ferrero Rocher recipe mimics that delicious chocolate candy while using ingredients that are vegan, gluten free, and refined sugar free!

Where is Ferrero Rocher from?

Ferrero Rocher originates from Italy! Fun fact: it’s made by the same company that also creates Nutella and Kinder Chocolate.

Is Ferrero Rocher gluten free?

Sadly, store bought Ferrero Rocher is not gluten free, as wheat is listed as in ingredient. However, this homemade Ferrero Rocher recipe is both gluten free and vegan, so it can be enjoyed by all!

Is Ferrero Rocher vegan?

Nope, store bought Ferrero Rocher is not vegan, either. Like most chocolate candy, Ferrero Rocher is made with milk, which makes it unsuitable for people who follow a vegan diet.

However, the Ferrero Rocher recipe below is 100% vegan! There is no dairy nor animal products used in this homemade candy recipe.

Is Ferrero Rocher healthy?

I generally don’t like to categorize individual foods as healthy or unhealthy. Instead, I believe eating a balanced diet that mainly consists of whole, natural foods is more important than scrutinizing individual meals and ingredients.

That being said, the recipe for these vegan Ferrero Rocher contains wholesome ingredients that you can pronounce. As with any treat, they shouldn’t be the main part of your diet. Don’t forget to eat your veggies, too!

Does Ferrero Rocher have peanuts?

Nope! There are no peanuts in Ferrero Rocher. The nut used in this delicious chocolate candy is hazelnuts, not peanuts, so this recipe is safe for those who have a peanut allergy.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place 1 c hazelnuts in a food processor, and blend for 2-3 minutes until it forms a paste. Save the extra 1/2 c chopped hazelnuts for topping.
  2. Add in the cocoa powder, vanilla extract, maple syrup, salt, and blend until the ingredients come together, about 15-30 seconds. The mixture should be slightly sticky, but not dry. If it is dry, add a little bit more maple syrup.
  3. Pinch about 1 tbsp balls from the dough. Roll each ball through the chopped hazelnuts, being sure to press them in so they stick.
  4. Refrigerate the balls for an hour until hardened.
  5. Once hardened, dip each ball in the melted chocolate. Sprinkle with any leftover chopped hazelnuts, and place in the fridge again for an hour, until hardened.
